Finals: Google

I never realized how important Google is for the modern society. People use Google for practically everything. Searches, images, videos, maps,  & even news. This company is useful because it gives us information that maybe we can't find in our regular everyday lives. But, Google also stores your information from every search you make or every video you look up. That is something that I completely disagree with though. I feel as if it is a violation of our Bill of Rights. Our computer is our own private property so shouldn't we make our searches in private as well? But to fix that, watch what you may search on Google. If you don't want your Grandmother to read it, then you probably don't want everyone at Google to read it either. Also, a job at Google sounds completely awesome!! (: I wonder how the inventors even came up with the idea of Google? It sounds so complicated & exhausting to work at Google or even own it! I don't know if I could keep up with the business going on there everyday with all the computers & paper going around. Takes a true genius to run a place of such brilliance like Google.

The Virtual Revolution

Humanity goes through it's stages. We have an industrial revolution. Then the first car was built. Now, we have entered the internet revolution. Today's society needs internet for practically everything. For jobs, at home, or for maybe some entertainment. Bringing the web to the rest of the world is a huge project for us to advance as a whole. The internet opens knowledge to all of us. Those of us who don't have any idea what is going on in the world need this kind of knowledge. The internet is important, whether you realize it or not... Share it.

Cloud Computing

Some of you have heard of the Cloud. But do you honestly know what it does? Per say, when you download a movie to your new phone, the Cloud will push the movie from your phone to your laptop or any other electronical device in your house like your TV. Now I think that is pretty neat!

Video in Class Today

My personal opinion on this video, I would have to say is quite scarey. When I get on the internet to search something, I'm hoping that what I search is private to me or to who I choose to share it with. Knowing that the internet will take my older searches & use them in Ad's on other web pages that I get on, just shows me the the web pays a little too close attention of what kind of things I like or what I search. Yes, it can be helpful but is it completely appropriate? It scares me to know also that other people can use my searches to find out what kind of person I am too. Not cool with me. I don't want complete strangers involved in my life...

Music Licensing

Putting a license on music is good but then is also a hassle. Some artists don't want their song to be used for a commercial that they probably don't support. But, going through all the steps to get the song you want to use is a huge burden. And it also costs alot of money to use that song as well. So what is your opinion about this? Should we keep music licensed or no??

Facebook Privacy

Facebook's privacy is becoming more & more public. Just like any other internet website anymore. It's becoming harder to keep things to yourself or even close friends. Luckily, I have made my profile invisible to anyone that I am not friends with on Facebook already. It's easy to change this, just click on privacy settings & change the settings to what you would enjoy more & feel more comfortable with. Be careful though!

Pintrest, Evernote, & Livebinders.

Pintrest, I would use pintrest.com if I were a teacher or maybe a big scrap-booker. It seems really interesting with all the fun pictures people will put up for some creative ideas for anything you need.

Evernote: This is a very useful site to use for school for note taking. Sometimes writing notes just takes too long. I'd rather type it out. I'm sure I'll use evernote.com in my future. Especially since I'm going into my upper-class years.

Livebinders: Livebinders.com is useful if you would have a big project coming up & you need a lot of information in a short amount of time. You just need to type what you want in the search box & it will pull all the information about your subject into one big binder. It's much easier to find your important websites than bookmarking them because they are all one 1 website!

Hope I gave you some helpful information! (:

Weird Stories in my Google Alerts

Bill Isles, 48, was struck by lightening outside of a gas station in Wichita Ks. after just buying a Mega Millions Lottery ticket. He told a paramedic right after the shock, "I had a better chance of being struck by lightening than winning the lottery." And he was right. His chances of getting shocked was 1 out of 700,000 while winning the lottery was 1 in 176 million. What luck?!

A man was busted for stealing $43 off a wall decorated in signed dollar bills in Destin, Florida. Later, he told the cops that he was taking them as souvenirs to his friends back in Michigan.

One heck of a dogfight broke out when a woman started throwing baby pit bulls at her boyfriend in a parking lot. She was arrested for animal abuse & the boyfriend was taken into custody for a possible charge with 3rd degree assault.

New Technology

Today I found in my Google Alerts on technology. They made a tiny TV camera implanted in the electrodes in the brain so that the blind may be able to see again. But this new technology, of course, brought up an ethics argument. Is it right to just hook up a blind person to this new out coming of technology?? We can't test it on animals because that is just inhuman & PEDA would not be very happy about that. I think if someone is up for the test, why not?! It's their personal choice. We are not even sure if this device will cause severe side effects. You never know 'till you try!

Facebook at Work.

Should your future employers be able get on your actual Facebook using your password to see if there is questionable content on there? I think that they have no right to get on your actual Facebook. I realize that they are just trying to see if their employee is a really good person but it does not need to be taking to such an extreme measure to where they can get onto your personal account. I believe that is a complete violation of the American Right of the First Amendment. Facebook is there to share what is going on in your life OUTSIDE of work.

Dear Future Interviewer,

I will not give you my password, so don't ask. Thanks.

Aubrey.

The Prezi my Group made on the New Policy on Google

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

Stuff I learned today:

I am a huge fan of making prezi's so I'm very familiar with what is going on there. But what I didn't know was that you can send a link to a friend's email & they can work on the prezi with you, just on a different computer! Pretty cool huh? That's what Amber & I learned today. I'm going to start using that more off often!! (:

Deleting Your Cookies

I have always been aware how easy it is to steal someone's I.D. or just look up their personal information. It's a predicament that everyone needs to be aware about. Today in class we watched some video clips that brought to my mind MORE ways that your personal information may be hacked or stolen. We need to be careful what we put on the internet or communication websites. We tend to think "Oh, that couldn't ever happen to me." but it can. Watch what sites you're on & delete your cookies!

Google Alerts

Google Alerts has helped me a lot on ideas for new posts & even ideas for school projects! It's so simple & easy to use. All you do is set the subject you want researched & set a time you want to get the info & Google will just send you a email. Pretty easy! (:

Music Training May Delay Hearing & Memory Loss

Many studies at Northwestern University have shown that music may slow the aging process of hearing & memory. The older musicians not only outperformed their older non-musician, they also encoded the sound stimuli as quickly & accurately as the younger non-musicians. How awesome is it that you can improve your hearing & your memory by just being involved in music?! I believe that music is a very important part of everyone's life, it also may help your health. Listen, Love, Perform. Music! (:

Today in class...

We watched a video on the growing rates of the internet that we use. The way that they approached the subject kind of made it scarey, kind of referring to we would have a rough time living without the internet. I think humans would be just fine without the internet. We survived thousands & thousands of years without it. Sure, internet is very helpful & a good source of entertainment for games & such but, we do not need it. Sometimes I'm thankful we have it though. (:

About 21st Century Skills Class

I feel like this class is going to very helpful to me in the near future. Computers are practically what we thrive on, (even though I don't completely agree), & we have to know how to use them to advance in the technology world. This class is teaching me a lot of things that are pretty interesting but, I do get confused a lot. Either way, I'm looking forward to it.

Reaction to Digital Nation Video

I do agree that technology is addicting to some people but, it is not a medical issue like they were saying on the video. That is something you cannot fix with medication. I also believe that we do need to continue advancing with technology. I'm not sure if we should start teaching our youth to use computers until they are at least old enough to realize that it could cause health problems, although computers & technology is a very important part of our growing knowledge.
